Mother

by Scandal

/

about

Think Alanis Morissette’s ‘You Oughta Know’ meets Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Good4U’ meets 10cc’s ‘I’m Not In love’, and you get the new song by Scandal, ‘Mother’. A bitter, acid-laced song, of broken-hearted denial.
The song, written by Craig, is seen from the point of view of a girl running into her fairly recent ex, who
dumped her for his new love.
The girl trying hard to convince him, that she is fine without him, but is actually trying to convince herself...unsuccessfully.
Backhanded bitter compliments, coupled with useless hints at a reunion, and an overwhelming desire for an explanation as to why she wasn’t good enough.
Sad and pathetic, delusional and drowning, this is a very powerful and emotional song.
If you’ve ever loved and lost, you’ll ‘get it’.
The song features the extremely powerful vocals of Audrey. Her voice dripping with all the emotion the song’s lyrics evoke.
Keegan plays wonderful and powerful acoustic and electric guitar, with a strong wah-wah driving the chorus.
For this song, Craig did his very first orchestral arrangement, which adds to the melancholy and the madness of the song.
All in all, it is a very strong and
emotive song, that touches deeply,
one of our basic human necessities
for life, and what the deprivation of
love can do to the heart and the
head.

lyrics

Woo woo ooh ooh
Hey Baby, walking around
Head in the clouds, ya feet
Don't touch the ground
Hey Baby, how do you do
The things you did to me
Does she do to you?
You gotta know
Life is treating me well
I thought that being alone
Would be a living hell
Hey Baby, drop me a line
You may find you're gonna get lonely sometime
Although I am fine

You look happy in the arms, in the arms of another
Does she treat you like a child, does she act like ya Mother?
Sold is the soul of the life from the old to the new
I just want you to explain, but you say you had your reasons
It's the murder of my heart, and it's bordering on treason
Do you feel?
Are you steel?
Is it cold when the burning breaks through?
Ooh ooh hoo ooh

So Baby, you're looking good
She's dressed you up well in that Versace suit
Whatever happened to tee shirts and jeans?
Your hair is a mess, but at least it's clean
I've been fine, all alone
It's not that bad
I hardly ever think about the time we had
Well maybe, a little today
I'm a little down now, but you know I'm okay
I think I'm okay

You look happy in the arms, in the arms of another
Does she treat you like a child, does she act like ya Mother?
Sold is the soul of the life from the old to the new
I just want you to explain, but you say you had your reasons
It's the murder of my heart, and it's bordering on treason
Do you feel?
Are you steel?
Is it cold when the burning breaks through?
Ooh ooh hoo ooh

Ooh ooh hoo ooh
Ooh ooh hoo ooh
Woah ooh woah
Woah ooh woah
Woah ooh woah

You look happy in the arms, in the arms of another
Does she treat you like a child, does she act like ya Mother?
Sold is the soul of the life from the old to the new
I just want you to explain, but you say you had your reasons
It's the murder of my heart, and it's bordering on treason
Do you feel?
Are you steel?
Is it cold when the burning breaks through?
Ooh ooh hoo aah

And does she
